accreditation: what it is and what it means

Accreditation Canada was established in 1958 as an independent, non-profit, voluntary accrediting body for the health care industry. Accreditation Canada is used by health care organizations across Canada and internationally as an independent measure of their quality of care. When granted, the Accreditation Canada logo identifies health care organizations which have met national standards and utilize best practices in health care.

Accreditation Canada logo DEVONSHIRE CARE HOME is fully Accredited by Accreditation Canada, as are all Park Place Seniors Living care homes. The only exception are homes that have joined the company since the most recent Accreditation Canada survey.

Accreditation must be repeated every three to four years. To earn accreditation, a health care organization must pass a rigorious and detailed in-person examination by an external, independent survey team of industry professionals.

Accreditation is your assurance that the care offered at Devonshire Care Home meets national standards and includes leading practices in elder care. To achieve Accreditation, the Devonshire was reviewed by an independent group of industry professionals, who measured the care home's performance against a detailed set of standards.

If you are moving into The Devonshire, it is your assurance of quality service. If you have a loved one moving into The Devonshire, it gives you assurance that your family member or friend will receive compassionate, professional care.

The surveyors for Accreditation Canada are professionals from across Canada who have decades of experience in seniors' residential care. In addition to visiting the Devonshire and interviewing residents, families and staff members, they also reviewed extensive documentation on the company’s procedures and policies.

The Devonshire is part of the Park Place Seniors Living family of care homes. Since 2005, all complex care homes owned and operated by Park Place Seniors Living have completed the accreditation process, with new homes participating in the next round of accreditation after they join the company. Accreditation is only available for homes which include nursing care. In B.C., that means homes licensed for residential complex care. In Alberta, that includes homes licensed for residential continuing care.

EVERY PARK PLACE SENIORS LIVING CARE HOME HAS EARNED ACCREDITATION. The only exceptions are care homes that have joined the company after the most recent accreditation audit. If not already accredited, these new-to-Park Place care homes will be included in the next Accreditation Canada review.
